Paper Wraps. Condition: Good to Very Good. Presumed First Edition. No stated date but believed to be 1913. 63pp. plus xiv pages of reviews of 'The Great Illusion' and a 1 page advertisement for other works by the asuthor. Sir Ralph Norman Angell (1872-1967) was a lecturer, journalist, author, Member of Parliament for the Labour Party, and an English Nobel Peace Prize winner. He was born Ralph Norman Angell Lane, but later adopted Angell as his sole surname. He is probably best known for his 1909 pamphlet, Europe's Optical Illusion, which was published the following year as the book 'The Great Illusion,' but he also published many other works. This book contains the following chapters: What is War's Real Cost to the Workers?; Only the Workers Can or Should Abolish War; Is War a Capitalist Plot?; Is Peace a Capitalist Plot?; Some First Steps to be Taken. The book is staple-bound in the original paper wraps with black titling on the front. The book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the covers and the paper originally covering the spine is missing. The corners of the covers and curled and creased and there are some nicks on the fore edge of the covers. Some rust staining from the staples is showing through the rear cover. The contents are secure and clean with curling to the corners of the early and later pages, some being dog-eared. A name has been written in pencil on the top edge of page 3 (the first page of the text).
