Item Description: British Army of the Rhine, 1946. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Hardback, first edition first printing of El Alamein to the River Sangro. 158pp., coloured folding maps, blue cloth, gilt. Foxing, modest wear at base of spine and a few other blemishes, overall a good+ copy in chipped, still good+ dustwrapper. Presented by Field Marshal Montgomery to "Jacko with my best wishes" signed and dated May 1946. "Jacko" was General Sir Henry Cholomoneley Jackson KCB, CMG, DSO who after commanding a Division in WWI and running the Machine Gun School at Netheravon, eventually took up a post as Director of Military Training in India etc. Montgomery clearly held Sir Henry in some regard as presentation copies (as distinct from signed copies) are very rare. Montgomery had a great regard for professional military training and personally oversaw the publication of a number of booklets on Military leadership and operations under the umbralla of 21st Army Group ( one is included with this book with a note from Jackson that is was given to him by Monty in 1945 at a Training School). In addition a copy of Montgomery's "Memoirs" with Jackson's bookplate. Three items in total all originally in Jackson's possession. Signed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 20554

Item Description: St Clements Press, 1948. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Very rare history of Eighth Corps operations from Normandy to the Rhine. 172pp.,maps, frontispiece, folding survey maps in endpocket. Very good condition in chipped, still useful coloured dustwrapper. Handwritten signed presentation inscription from the Corps Commander General Richard O'Connor to the well known author Arthur Bryant. The inscription explains how (Bryant's) writings meant "so much to me during my captivity".General O'Connor, the then highly successful desert commander was spectacularly captured by a German reconnaissance patrol in the desert in 1941 and until his escape in late 1943 spent his time in an Italian POW camp. He returned to England and commanded a full Corps from 1944 until the wars end. Copies of this book are exceptionally rare, and to find one in a dustwrapper with the ultimate inscription from Sir Richard, the Corps Commander, who himself had a larger than life story to tell, makes it unique.
