This is a translation into German from the French of part 1 of the "Memoires d'Avantures d'un Homme de Qualite".The second part was the famous "Manon Lescaut". This copy is bound in original calf, spine leather cracking away a bit, but still soundly attached (see photograph); text pages all present and very good. A previous owner's name is written in browned ink along the fore-edge of the titlepage: "George Renny 1764". Titlepage with woodcut vignette. Pages 1-280, with woodcut to head of the publishers's Foreword, followed by page 11 giving the start of the Erstes Buch; the Zweyte Buch starts on p 158. Following this there is a new titlepage with a different vignette, giving the same title as before, but this time it is the Zweyter Theil containing the Third and Fourth Books,and acknowledging the permission of the King of Poland and [of] Thuringia-Saxony, and dated 1754.
