Item Description: Soft cover. Book Condition: Good. 12 1/2 x 8 Inches. 320 x 205 Mm. The binding is limp black cloth, cracked all along th spine but still holding on. There are no ownership indications of any kind. The cuttings are all glued down firmly to the page, and nearly all include the original, often detailed, caption. The first pages cover "the sea-fight off the Falklands". There follow cuttings of photographs with detailed captions on individual ships in that battle, photographs of Admiral Sir Doveton Sturdee, who sank Von Spee's squadron, etc. The final pages show "Music in the Dardanelles before the great landing", "Turkish torpedo-boat 'Demir Hassar', which attempted to sink the British Transport 'Manitou'". In all the 88 pages, each containing 1, 2, 3 or 4 cuttings, cover naval engagements, ships, people, of the period very thoroughly. Included are four small original watercolours, one depicting "AMC Carmania in action", one of "HMS Kent and HMS Glasgow sinking SKMS Dresden", the other two uncaptioned. The jacket has been photographically reproduced from the original in three colours, including the texts on the flaps. The binding is red cloth, with spine lettering in silver. Silk to front of volume 3 and back of Volume 4 is torn and small areas missing, edges rubbed. Leather bumped and rubbed but all three bindings are tight and solid. Beautiful decorative endpapers, silk page markers. All three volumes have numerous colour plates with tissue guards in excellent condition, bright and colourful plus numerous b/w illustrations in text.
