Good++. 1900. xxxi703pp. Text based on the 1872 Sixth Edition, with additions and corrections. Spine ends and corners a little bumped and rubbed, binding solid, clean and bright. Frontispiece has photogravure of author with tissue guard, includes fold out diagram in perfect condition. Hinge torn at flyleaf, otherwise internally clean with slight foxing to edges of text block. Owner name(s) in ink, dated 1901 and in pencil dated 1935. Advertisement leaf preceding half title has pencil addition of book title for Darwin's 'Voyage of the Beagle'. Cloth covered boards from which almost all traces of titles and decoration have disappeared, just faint remnants of green leaf decoration to front cover and spine. 1907. Externally poor, internally fair. xiii237pp. Cloth is worn through to boards at edges, wrinkled and damp stained. Frontispiece has colour plate illustration with tissue guard, further 55 colour plates all with tissue guards. Top edge of pages gilded, other untrimmed. There is evidence of damp/mould staining on the leading edge of several pages although luckily this has penetrated only to a maximum of 1.5cms and has not damaged any of the plates.
