In amazing condition, protected by custom made box, a few minor marks to cover, not bumped or rubbed, internally bright and clean. Frontispiece has fold out map, six further fold out maps. Owners book plates pasted to endpapers; A New Biographical Dictionary by Stephen Jones. 1796. Second edition. Very good. Not paginated. Binding as above, but with some minor damage to leather on inside edge, some small scuffs. Also with owners book plate to front endpaper; Dictionary of the English Language. 1797. Fifth edition. Good++. Same binding as above but some bumping and rubbing, ink and other marks to cover. This volume has been used, unlike the other two but binding is still tight, internally clean apart from ink remarks to title page and ink dedication on flyleaf. All contained within custom made wooden box bound identically to volumes. Gold paper covering edges torn in places, edges rubbed but still solid, corners have some chips. This is a delightful set of 18th century pocket dictionaries, three of a set of five published between 1795 and 1799. This is a translation into German from the French of part 1 of the "Memoires d'Avantures d'un Homme de Qualite".The second part was the famous "Manon Lescaut". This copy is bound in original calf, spine leather cracking away a bit, but still soundly attached (see photograph); text pages all present and very good. A previous owner's name is written in browned ink along the fore-edge of the titlepage: "George Renny 1764". Titlepage with woodcut vignette. Pages 1-280, with woodcut to head of the publishers's Foreword, followed by page 11 giving the start of the Erstes Buch; the Zweyte Buch starts on p 158. Following this there is a new titlepage with a different vignette, giving the same title as before, but this time it is the Zweyter Theil containing the Third and Fourth Books,and acknowledging the permission of the King of Poland and [of] Thuringia-Saxony, and dated 1754.
