Item Description: SILVANA, 2015. 312 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 978-88-366-3053-0

Item Description: YALE UNIVERSITY PRESS, 2015. 320 pages. Art in Britain 1660-1815 presents the first social history of British art from the period known as the long 18th century, and offers a fresh and challenging look at the major developments in painting, drawing, and printmaking that took place during this period. It describes how an embryonic London art world metamorphosed into a flourishing community of native and immigrant practitioners, whose efforts ultimately led to the rise of a British School deemed worthy of comparison with its European counterparts. Within this larger narrative are authoritative accounts of the achievements of celebrated artists such as Peter Lely, William Hogarth, Thomas Gainsborough, and J.M.W. Turner. David H. Solkin has interwoven their stories and many others into a critical analysis of how visual culture reinforced, and on occasion challenged, established social hierarchies and prevailing notions of gender, class, and race as Britain entered the modern age. More than 300 artworks, accompanied by detailed analysis, beautifully illustrate how Britain's transformation into the world's foremost commercial and imperial power found expression in the visual arts, and how the arts shaped the nation in return. Item Description: OFFICINA LIBRARIA, 2015. 804 pages. Item Description: DETAIL, 2015. 112 pages. "No other architect provided as many ideas and inspiration to construction in the second half of the 20th century as Frei Otto. Lord Norman Foster described this great pioneer of lightweight construction simply as "an inspiration". Frei Otto explored the foundations of resource and energy-efficient building well before these issues received the attention of the wider public. By including users in construction planning and taking into account local and climatic conditions, he opened new avenues for the building industry. To celebrate his 90th birthday, the publication provides insights on the key aspects of his work. At its heart was the search for natural designs and an exploration of form-finding and self-development processes. As such he created a whole universe of ideas using membrane, net and convertible roofs with umbrellas, grid shells, and pneumatic structures. The book introduces his key works and highlights how his ideas were adopted and continued throughout the world.". Bookseller Inventory # 978-3-95553-252-9

In many cultural contexts of the past and present, this "uncolored" color holds a special place: regardless of context, the special color code #000000 is always met with great respect. This is also true for the current and intense interaction of architects and designers with the color black. Black buildings seem majestic, filled with a special aura, and dominant, but they can also emphasize their surroundings precisely because of their lack of color. The projects presented in this volume show the great variety of approaches by the contemporary building culture to this fascinating physical and cultural phenomenon.". "•Featuring the tallest buildings and skyscrapers from China, the global economic powerhouse and the world's most populous nation •Edited by Georges Binder, one of the world's most accomplished tall buildings experts Featuring the tallest buildings and skyscrapers from China, the global economic powerhouse spectacular designs from the world s most populous nation. Stunning full-colour photography throughout. This breathtaking new compilation showcases the latest tall buildings in China, including the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and emerging super-cities in the provinces. Georges Binder examines the best in contemporary design, the technology that makes them possible, and pairs them with beautiful imagery. Binder says If Shanghai was already accommodating tall buildings in the 1930s with projects such as Bank of China and Broadway Mansion, both designed by Palmer and Turner, it was the 52-storey Connaught Centre in Hong Kong, now Jardine House, designed by P&T that put Asia on the worldwide skyscraper map in 1973. Architect John Portman created a milestone in 1990 when his mixed-use Shanghai Centre became the first major tall building in mainland China completed according to international standards. At that time, only two buildings in Hong Kong were part of the 100 world s tallest buildings list and none were located in mainland China. Twenty-five years later, when the 660-metre, 115-storey Ping An Finance Center in Shenzhen, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, becomes China s tallest and the world s second-tallest building in 2015, more than 40 of the 100 world s tallest buildings will be located in China and the country will have on its soil by far the highest number of supertall projects compared with any other country; a trend that is not expected to change soon. These skyscrapers are a fitting symbol of China s new-found prosperity, ambition and architectural flair." ". Bookseller Inventory # 978-1-86470-412-9

Item Description: BRAUN, 2015. 352 pages. Concrete is an all-around talent, already in use in ancient Rome and since the second half of the 20th century one of the most important building materials. After a period of excess and architectural faux pas a renaissance of – exposed – concrete began in the 1990s. Whether the design would expressive-opulent or minimalistic-clear, the constant advance of technological developments, especially sophisticated new types of concrete, made possible phenomenal, previously unattainable constructions in high design quality. This volume provides an overview of contemporary realized projects. Their selection presents the many faces of concrete and the breadth of design possibilities of this building material. Furthermore, excursuses are dedicated to the role of concrete in product design. Bookseller Inventory # 978-3-03768-189-3
