Already interested in cars and their designs (he was later to become a designer for General Motors) he took hundreds of snapshots of exotic (to him) cars on the streets. By the time he returned to France a decade later, nearly all the cars he had seen previously had disappeared due to stringent post-WW II taxes. Bob Straub's evocative photographs of these classicsDelahayes, Delages, Bugattis, Tatras, Hotchkiss', Rosengarts, Hispano Suiza's, to name a few, are the substance of this book along with his entertaining and informative narrative. 120 plates. Item Description: 2011. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 2nd Edition. NEW- UPDATED EDITION A must for every Giulietta owner or potential owner! Owners of Alfa Romeo Giuliettas and Giulias of the 1950s-60s were on their own in the 1970s when I served as editor of Alfantics, the newsletter of the Capital Chapter of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, and the Alfa Owner, the newsletter of the national club. My position enabled me to observe how owners talked about and worked to keep these cars running, whether as daily drivers, restored for weekend outings, or on the track. By 1983, when my Alfa Romeo Giulietta 750 and 101 series Giuliettas and Giulias; 1954-1965 was released, my hoped-for $12 price had, sadly, morphed into $40. As soon as my book was out of print, people were paying uupload p to $400 a copy. Nowadays, I see copies offered at $100-to-$300 on the Web. This revised and updated edition continues to answer the need I saw back then and advance the story I set out to tell at the original price. This long-awaited rerelease contains more than 48% new material plus 40 new tables, including collector car market tracking for the new financial reality. Bookseller Inventory # 15153

Item Description: Brown Fox Books, 2012. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. In 1970, Sylvia Wilkinson was a writer in the category known as 'young Southern Woman Novelist'. While her novels and teaching paid the bills she had a passion for motorsports that led her to write The Stainless Steel Carrot: An Auto Racing Odyssey. The book profiled young up-and-coming road racer John Morton as he raced the BRE Datsun 510 in the 1971 and 1972 SCCA Trans-Am 2.5 Challenge. John won the championships and continued on a road-racing career that saw dozens of championship level victories around the country and abroad. The book, well regarded among both racers and general audience readers, has been out of print since 1973. Original copies often sell for over $100 online and at collectors events. Now, thanks to years of requests from fans, and Sylvia s interest in animals, the book is republished with additional material. The 2012 Brown Fox edition includes additional photography from both the 1971-72 timeframe as well as throughout John's career. Forwards from both Dan Gurney and Parnelli Jones introduce the new book. In this Revisited Edition of the classic motor racing book, author Sylvia Wilkinson has added a new 45-page chapter catching up with many of the people who made the BRE team successful and the book so compelling, including John Morton, the team s number one driver, who went on to race professionally for now close to 40 years. Item Description: Yellow Chevron, 2012. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. This book is a compilation of 8 outstanding road trips produced for various magazines over the last 20 years. The book combines the beautiful motoring photography of Martyn Goddard with the evocative writing of three excellent motoring journalists, Phil Llewellin, Dale Drinnon and Paul Horrell. Mr Llewellin, who wrote most of the stories, was a very well regarded motoring and travel writer and these stories - journeys or adventures really - are all charmingly told and very accurate in the depth of detail. Several are taken from the iconic classic car magazine Super Car Classics. They recount trips in classic cars, mainly wonderful Citroens. But it is not just about cars, the trips are also about people and places and most importantly, food and wine, as discovered in different parts of France. The majority of the photographs have never been seen before and are a stunning mix of reportage and beautifully crafted car images. Included are trip notes that give some background to the stories. A great read for anyone who loves cars, travel, adventure or food and wine in any combination. Bookseller Inventory # 16303

Item Description: Faustrol, 2012. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. This is the first English edition of the second volume of Gabriel Voisin's autobiography, which was published in France in 1962 as Mes Mille et Une Voitures. It follows a first volume (published in the UK in 1963 as Men, Women and 10,000 Kites) covering Voisin's childhood and early career as an aviation pioneer – the man who founded the first company in the world to manufacture aeroplanes, and who created what many still regard as the first practical heavier-than-air flying machine. As its title implies, My 1001 Cars is the companion memoir relating the period between 1917 to the sixties, during which the legendary designer and engineer turned his attention to the motor car – initially, with the distinctive luxury machines of the Vintage years and the famously exotic art déco creations of the thirties, through to the various iterations of the minimalist Biscooter concept of the fifties. Modernist in spirit, rational in conception and unconventional in execution, this prolific and eclectic body of work is described in the context of a richly colourful personal life, related with both humour and honesty. Packed with personal drama, political intrigue, innovative thinking, trenchant commentary and the distillation of a long life interestingly lived, it's the story of a man who cared more about exploring radical ideas than making money (though he certainly knew how to spend it). It is lavishly illustrated with more than 150 period photographs, many of which have never before been published, and is likely to remain the definitive edition for English speakers. The translation and commentary are by an authority on the marque and a longstanding member of Les Amis de Gabriel Voisin. Bookseller Inventory # 15889

Item Description: E-Z Spindizzy Collection, 1998. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Spindizzy racing started in Los Angeles in the late 1930s when hobbyists began building miniature cars powered by the engines of their model airplanes, which were fueled by a mix of alcohol, castor oil and gasoline. They tied one end of a piece of wire to the car's inner weight centre, tied the other end to a pole, let the car run in a wide circle. The sport rapidly became very popular throughout the US during the 1940's and early 1950's. From the beginning, they were much more than simple toys. For example, the Indianapolis car from B. B. Korn Manufacturing Company, introduced in 1938, featured a hand-cast alloy chassis with five cross members, a louvered aluminum body and ball-bearing axles with rubber bushings. "The people who built these cars were true craftsmen," says Eric Zausner of Berkeley, Calif., whose collection is surely among the most historically significant in the country. "It wasn't uncommon for hundreds of hours of handwork to go into a single car." To Mr. Zausner, the diminutive vehicles are authentic remnants of Americana, like hand-carved merry-go-round horses or copper weathervanes. "They represent a time when going fast and being competitive were important parts of our national culture." Eric Zausner has published this lavish 250 page large, format (11x17 inch) book containing over 350 color photos of gasoline-powered cars from the 1930's through the 1990's. Vintage photographs, original advertising and engineering drawings add to the history and personalities of this unique hobby. Each chapter of the book details the diversity of the hobby - from dirt track racers and Indy-style cars, to hot rods, streamliners and European models. An extensive reference section provides pictures and specifications of over 150 production models. THE definitive book on the subject and a true collectors item. Bookseller Inventory # 15291
