Having been a reader my whole life and yet somehow never joined a book club until now, I find myself wondering what makes a strong book club choice. Should we stick to fiction? As an all women’s group, are we doomed to chick lit? Does a book need to be controversial to spark interesting conversation? What kind of book goes best with an enormous plate of brownies and a vat o’ wine?

These are the questions, and I, determined to pick and read great books and not mess about, set out to make a list of recommendations based on the books I’ve read and been most engrossed by, and the ones I’m looking most forward to reading. Agree, debate and enjoy.

LithographsThe firm of Currier and Ives has a secure place in art history. It produced around 7,500 lithographs from 1834 to 1907 and cornered the market in affordable prints with a business that stretched across the Atlantic. These memorable lithographs portrayed many aspects of ordinary life, and today are highly prized and collectible.
