Here's an idea - this summer, skip the new books, and read good books from the past.
The summer reading lists are on the way. Every newspaper, magazine, and celebrity blogger will make their recommendations for the latest in formulaic, forgettable fluff: the court case drama, the teen vampire saga, the celebrity biography and the heartbreak of romance with a man who can't be tamed. Predictable, dull and safe.
This year, we're skipping John Grisham, Stephenie Meyer, Nora Roberts and all the cookie-cutter blockbusters. Instead, we're dusting off our Wayback Machine to visit some excellent books that have been left behind, from names like Ray Bradbury, Toni Morrison, Kurt Vonnegut, Ayn Rand and more. Whether we've been meaning to read them, meaning to re-read them or had forgotten them altogether, these are books we're proud to bring out of the beach bag: enjoyable, affordable, damn good reads.
Go back in time. Read great books. Have a great summer.
