The Tales of Beedle the Bard Contest - Now Closed
JK Rowling is back. In truth, she never went away but the release of The Tales of Beedle the Bard has put her back on the bestseller list. To celebrate JK’s return, AbeBooks has a very special contest prize – up for grabs are a collector’s edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard and a copy of the Sotheby’s auction catalog for the hand-written edition of Beedle the Bard from December 2007.
Now the collector’s edition of Beedle the Bard is nice enough – it cost $100 and its value on the rare book market is already rising – but very few copies of the auction catalog were distributed. In terms of sheer collectability, the auction catalog is a very special item.
Remember that charity auction in London? Our friends at Amazon won the bidding by putting a cool £1.95 million (nearly $4 million at the time) on the table. That’s the highest amount ever paid for a Rowling book or any children’s book for that matter. Only seven hand-written editions of Beedle the Bard were created.
The catalog is small but beautiful with lots of close-up pictures of the hand-written book, including images from its creation. Rowling writes the introduction and the charity aspect of the auction is detailed.
**Thank you for your interest in our contest. This contest is now closed.**
