Collectible N.C. Wyeth
Newell Convers Wyeth (1882-1945), otherwise known as N.C. Wyeth, is one of America’s most famous creative sons. He painted more than 3,000 pictures and illustrated 112 books. A realist painter, Wyeth’s work was ideal for books – his melodramatic images instantly conveyed a message to the reader.
Classic stories like Robin Hood, Robinson Crusoe, Kidnapped, The Mysterious Island and Treasure Island received the Wyeth treatment and his memorable illustrations are now part of literary history. A talented artist as a young boy, Wyeth studied under Howard Pyle, another legend of American art, and learnt the importance of historical accuracy and detail. Check out the book covers below and see how many characters have an object in their hands. Wyeth painted many Western scenes before moving into classic literature.
