The Quills - Poll

And the winner is… Will people power and Hollywood glitz help the latest book awards get off the ground?

Later this year, a major new set of book awards called The Quills will be handed out at an Oscars-style ceremony. Unlike existing award programs, the winners will be selected by consumer voting and the event will be broadcast on NBC TV in October. The shortlist will be created by nominations from booksellers and librarians.

The publicity alone is expected to influence book sales and raise the profiles of many authors, but Abebooks.com wants to know what North America’s community of independent booksellers think about the initiative. Will it work? Does the book business need Hollywood glamour? Were you asked to be part of the nomination board?
