Pornographic volume from 1780 by French pseudo-aristocrat and amateur
art dealer. First and definite edition of the famous work whose titles
has only 10 lines, instead of the 11 lines of the original edition.
Contemporary calfskin volumes on 5 raised bands with gilt stamped
titles and ornaments on back. including 50 plates with copper engravings.

Architectural Side of Golf by H.N. Wethered &
T. Simpson - $5,073.00
H.N. Wethered was the father of two famous amateur golfers, Joyce
and Roger Wethered, while Tom Simpson was a golf course architect
who designed, among others, Cruden Bay in Scotland, Morfontaine in
France and redesigned Ballybuion in Ireland. This book from 1929 is
both an important historical work on golf architecture and a definitive
guide on how to layout and maintain a golf course.

to James' long-time friend and intellectual companion James Jackson
Putnam on front free endpaper: " James J. Putnam, from its co-author,
W. J. May 31, 1907." Personal inscriptions by James are becoming
uncommon. This copy with penciled annotations, almost entirely in
the later parts of the book and particularly on the rear endpapers.

Complete with all 154 chromo-lithograph plates finely executed by
the pontifical printing-office after drawings made by Giovanni Battista
de Rossi. De Rossi was an Italian archeologist, famous for his rediscovery
of early Christian catacombs. In 1849 he rediscovered the lost catacombs
of Saint Callistus along the Via Antica. The catacombs were opened
in the early 3rd century, as the principal Christan cemetery in Rome,
were nine 3rd-century popes were buried.
