New BeginningsThe book industry has thrown its weight behind an unprecedented publishing venture to help the victims of the Boxing Day tsunami disaster. Some of the biggest names in modern fiction - ranging from Stephen King to Ian McEwan - have contributed to a single volume called New Beginnings. It will be published in paperback on March 3 (World Book Day) in Canada and March 23 in the US. The proceeds will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee Fund and it is hoped millions of dollars will be raised worldwide. The array of international writers donating unpublished first chapters includes Margaret Atwood, Maeve Binchy, Mark Haddon, Nick Hornby, Scott Turow, Alexander McCall Smith, Paulo Coelho, Tracy Chevalier, Nicholas Evans and Vikram Seth.
