How Want Match Reports Can Work For You
By Jessica

First of all, what is a 'Want'? Buyers (or booksellers) can create a Want in their AbeBooks account, when a book they are looking for is not available on AbeBooks, or is not available in the condition they need. Once a Want is created, the buyer will be notified via email whenever a book matching the specifications is listed on AbeBooks.

You’ve probably noticed the “An Abebooks Customer Wants Your Books!” e-mails we send out, but might be wondering how to use them.

Whenever you upload a new listing, or a buyer adds a new Want, a match can be made. Here are the Top 3 ways that booksellers use these reports:

  • Scan the titles and authors in the match list. Notice any typos? Click the update link to make any changes.
  • Is a book matching often, but never selling? This may be a sign that the description is too sparse, the price too high, or a desirable photo missing. Examine the listing and compare it to others for clues.
  • If books by a specific author or with a particular subject match often, it’s a good indication that there are collectors out there looking at your books. If you have similar books in your inventory but not online, upload them now! This could also influence your buying habits.

If you don’t find the Match Reports useful, you can turn them off in your Members Menu. Just click [Your Personal Information] in the Members Menu, and then click [Update Your Account Information] and select [No] from the Email Matches drop-down list.
