One
More Book Store
Bookselling is definitely not the easiest way to make a living....but
you know what they say, "If you do what you love, you'll never
work a day in your life". That is true in my case, which is
what keeps me doing it! Although it is a lot of work, it doesn't
feel like it... I still want to go back and do more.
We opened in May of 1999, then expanded in September of 2000. We
have an inventory of about 40,000+ titles and growing daily - housed
in about 1000 sq.ft.. Since we are a retail storefront, stock comes
in daily. We are looking forward to the day when we finally have
all our books logged online. At
that point we can actually get out there and do some book buying.
I had no experience in bookselling before opening "ONE MORE
BOOK STORE. COM", only a love for books, people and business.
I come from the professional arena and find it has really helped...however,
just when I think I've learned a lot, I realize how very much more
I have to learn... the book world is another world of its own.
There are four of us who work here. There's me, Donna, then Carolyn,
who is my right arm...she loves what she does and is very much a
heartbeat here so books are organized and easily found...thanks
to her ongoing effort and support. We also have Brenda; a casual
helper who is a wonderful asset and truly enjoys being here. Of
course every store that's online needs a computer tech....here we
have my heir, (my 12 year old son!!!) Kyle...who helps out when
he's not in school.
As
far as specialties go, I would say we specialize in service rather
than product (we try to only handle "gently" used books).
By service I'm referring to ordering books for customers, offering
low in-store prices and a comfortable, well organized, clean store.
We offer a wide range of categories from comics to classics, including:
bestsellers, thriller, mystery, romance, children's, true crime,
science fiction, historical fiction, literature, western, non-fiction,
cooking, business, health & fitness, sports, history, self development,
theology, Canadian, out of print, French, and biography. We have
plans to have a stronger branch in the children's area...including
community projects promoting reading for young children.
We have begun to collect Marilyn Monroe items to put on display
here in the store...customers love it!! What they don't like is
that these items are not for sale!!! We have no shop pets as yet...however,
there is one 'in the oven', so to say. We are waiting for the female
to have her babies- then we'll have a "Romeo" or "Juliet"
Yorkshire Terrier.
You asked us about legendary stories...well since we basically
log on in masses it's difficult at this point (until all our stock
is logged) to verify the value of every book we list. One time a
children's book was logged at $1.95 U.S....we immediately received
many many orders for the book...being curious we looked up the value
and to our surprise it was $175.00 U.S.- needless to say "ONE"
online customer got a very good deal. Another satisfying event comes
to mind....a customer came in the store and asked us if we could
find a book for him...he was absolutely thrilled we located it for
him. It turned out he had been searching for the book for 11 years...the
last book finishing the collection.
I must make mention that we have been a member of ABE for about
a year now...a good business move to say the least. Sales increased
immediately and continue to grow online consistently. ABE is very
conscious in regards to their booksellers and is continually there
for any support you might need.
Although
I have never read a book more than once, if I was going to reread
one or recommend one, it would be - without question Memoirs of a Geisha!!!! I was enveloped and transported into another time,
another world, another culture, into deep emotions - it was so moving
for me words simply cannot describe it. My copy will always remain
with me in my personal bookcase.
