Milford
Book Cellar
Welcome to Milford Book Cellar, Milford Pennsylvania. Located in
the historic 1904 Milford School, we occupy the basement level of
the school building. (Naming the store was easy.) Currently we have
over 25,000 books in stock in our very "cozy" 800 square
feet.
In June of 2000 we opened our second location, Church Street Books,
in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out
we are located on Church Street! At present we have approximately
15,000 volumes and another 10,000 to move in to Church Street books.
Obviously, naming our stores has been the easiest part of owning
a bookstore.
We
have found the bookselling industry to be the most fascinating adventure.
Starting two years ago with the opening of Milford Book Cellar,
our lives where changed. We have always had a great respect and
love for books (I personally love the smell of a book) and never
really collected any one thing in particular. Both stores reflect
that. Our stock is a general collection of everything. We say from
comics to classics and everything in between! Our customers seem
to agree. That is what keeps us going and going. We are thrilled
when someone comes into the stores and asks for that obscure title
and sure enough there it is!
Our inventory is quite unique, including two private collections:
the Josephine Miller collection and Shapiro Collection. Mrs. Miller
is a noted anthropologist from the Milford area. Her collection
includes not only antiquarian children's books, but also from her
field of women's studies, women authors, women issues, the list
is endless. The Shapiro Collection, avid booksellers and collectors,
includes a vast variety of all subjects, hard cover and soft cover
antiquarian books. It is a blessing that we have been able to acquire
both of these fine collections.
Lastly,
one of our best assets is our "President of Dog Affairs,"
a standard poodle named Molly. She is our greeter and sometimes
sideshow. A quick dog cookie and she'll help you choose a favorite
book! Her hardest decision each day is which store she has to "work
" at.
Thank you for the opportunity to visit with you. We hoped you enjoyed
sharing our adventure.
