ABEBOOKS.COM LAUNCHES LIBROS EN ESPAÑOL TO
SERVE THOSE WHO READ, SELL
OR COLLECT SPANISH-LANGUAGE BOOKS AND AUTHORS
AbeBooks.comthe popular website for used, rare and out-of-print
bookscelebrates the launch of a new area on the website
that features Spanish language books, booksellers, and authors.
(VICTORIA, BC, February 11, 2004)AbeBooks, the worlds
largest online
marketplace for used, rare, and out-of-print books, today announced
the
launch of Libros en Español a new area on AbeBooks.com
dedicated to
Spanish language books and authors. This new area makes it easy
to find
and buyor list and sellbooks of interest to Hispanic
and Latino
readers and collectors, in Spanish and in English.
Hannes Blum, chief executive officer of AbeBooks explains, Weve
created a page for the growing community of people who read and
collect
these books. This is our invitation to Hispanic and Latino communities
in North America and around the world to adopt AbeBooks as their
online
home for a broad selection of Spanish-language books and
authors.
By working with book sellers and collectors in Puerto Rico, Argentina,
Spain, Ecuador, Mexico, the United States and Canada who already
list their books on www.abebooks.com, AbeBooks was able to create
a page that provides quick and easy access to a wide selection
of books by Latino, Hispanic and Spanish authors, as well as books
that focus on Hispanic history, biography, language, culture and
academic studies. These include new, used, rare, and out of print
books, as well as maps, prints, magazines and comics in English
and in Spanish.
Miguel Miranda, a bookseller in Madrid Spain, who sells Spanish-language
books on AbeBooks.com explains: "Spanish language is more
important
every day, with millions of people united by the same tongue.
The great
classic books from Spain combined with the brilliant latin american
literature mix together to form a very rich selection. Now its
possible
to search all these books and authors on one site."
Libros en Español, located at www.abebooks.com/Espanol,
currently
lists 200,000 books from the AbeBooks database of 50 million books.
One
goal of the page is to spotlight the great authors and literature
of
Latin America, just as Oprah Winfreys recent book club choice
(One
Hundred Years of
Solitude) has drawn attention to Latin American author Gabriel
García
Márquez.
To launch the new page AbeBooks is inviting everyoneespecially
members of Hispanic and Latino communitiesto visit Libros
en Español and tell people the name of a favorite
Spanish-language book or author. Everyone who does so will be
entered in a draw for a collectible, Spanish-language copy of
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
valued at over $500. The visitors will also receive a thank you
gift from AbeBooks. (Entries will be accepted until April 1; the
draw takes place April 2, 2004.)
