ABEBOOKS.COM CLOSES PARTNERSHIP WITH BIBLIOZ.COM
(Victoria, BC, Canada - April 27, 2005) AbeBooks.com - the worlds largest online marketplace for new, used, rare, and out-of-print books - will end its partnership with Biblioz.com on April 30, 2005 in favor of increased focus on building its own market position in Australasia.
"We believe very strongly that our own marketplace delivers the biggest benefit to both our booksellers and our buyers," said AbeBooks.com president and CEO Hannes Blum. "Sustained growth and increasing brand awareness means AbeBooks.com is now in a very strong position in Australia and New Zealand. We intend to build on this platform in the future."
AbeBooks.com booksellers had the option of listing their books on Biblioz.com through the partnership. However, AbeBooks.com launched a micro-site dedicated to Australia and New Zealand in 2004, and a successful 12-month marketing campaign has delivered greater brand awareness about AbeBooks in Australasia. Registered users from the region have already increased by over 60 per cent.
More than 360 booksellers in Australia and New Zealand currently list books with AbeBooks, which means Australasian buyers are able to purchase from local sellers via the AbeBooks.com.au micro-site.
AbeBooks.com has now ceased accepting orders from Biblioz.com but all existing orders made before April 21 will be processed.
AbeBooks is the world's largest online marketplace for books, with over 70 million new, second-hand, rare, and out-of-print titles listed for sale by more than 13,000 independent booksellers from around the world. AbeBooks has millions of registered customers who collectively purchase more than 20,000 books a day from its 5 global websites (AbeBooks.com, AbeBooks.co.uk, AbeBooks.de, AbeBooks.fr and Iberlibro.com). A true internet success story, AbeBooks.com has been selling books online since 1996, and is a private company based in Victoria, BC Canada, with offices in Düsseldorf, Germany.
