ABEBOOKS CREATES TWO NEW SENIOR POSITIONS IN RESPONSE TO
RECENT INTERNATIONAL GROWTH
AbeBooks, the world's largest online marketplace for used,
rare and out-of-print books, creates new leadership roles in marketing
and customer service.
10th September, 2002
(Victoria, BC) - AbeBooks, the world's largest online marketplace
for used, rare and out-of-print books, today announced the appointments
of Susan Connors to vice president, Product & Bookseller Community,
and Dr. Boris Wertz to vice president Marketing & Business
Development. Both positions report directly to Brent James, president
and chief executive officer.
These two positions were created in response to recent outstanding
growth in international markets for the Victoria-based company.
AbeBooks began as an online network of four used-book sellers
in 1996, and today is the largest online marketplace for used,
rare, and out-of-print books with over 10,000 member booksellers
who list 40 million books. This massive book inventory can be
searched on each of the four AbeBooks websites: AbeBooks.com,
AbeBooks.de, AbeBooks.fr and the recently launched AbeBooks.co.uk.
Ms. Connors takes the position of vice president, Product &
Bookseller Community, and will be responsible for enhancing bookseller
communication. "I'm excited about the opportunity to create
more of a community atmosphere for AbeBooks booksellers. AbeBooks
has always been a network of booksellers, now we're becoming a
community that offers added value to booksellers with features
like our new "Bookseller Central" discussion board,
and our improved HomeBase software, the free program we provide
to help sellers catalogue inventory. "
Ms. Connors' career experience includes computer systems and network
management, development and direction of computer training programs,
and development of technological initiatives for individuals and
corporations. She founded a computer consulting and software training
company and has served on a number of committees throughout her
career.
Dr. Wertz takes the position of vice president marketing and business
development and will be responsible for expanding existing strategic
partnerships and building a strong AbeBooks brand. "I am
pleased to contribute to AbeBooks recent success, including our
launch of a UK website in August and a partnership with Amazon
to provide used books to their Marketplace program. These marketing
initiatives are only the beginning."
Dr. Wertz joined AbeBooks last year after the company acquired
JustBooks, the leading European internet marketplace for used
and out-of-print books that was started by Wertz and several partners.
Dr. Wertz holds a PhD from the Graduate School of Management,
Koblenz, Germany.
