ABEBOOKS LAUNCHES FIVE-COUNTRY EUROPEAN BUS TOUR AT THE LONDON BOOK FAIR

11th March, 2003

AbeBooks—the world's largest online marketplace for secondhand, rare, and out-of-print books—launches their “Across Europe with 40 Million Books” Bus Tour at the London Book Fair this weekend.

(LONDON) March 11, 2003—-AbeBooks, the world's largest online marketplace for secondhand, rare, and out-of-print books launches a five–country bus tour across the UK and Europe to celebrate reading.

The tour launch takes place at the London Book Fair on Sunday March 16 with a contest inviting the public and fair attendees to “Find Your Favourite Book” at the AbeBooks bus, parked outside the fair entrance on Olympia Way. The AbeBooks red, double-decker bus will be festooned with four large lists showing the titles and authors of over one-thousand popular English-language novels.

People are invited to vote at the bus for their favourite book or vote online at www.abebooks.co.uk. All entries go into a draw to win a weekend for two in Paris, Berlin or London. Final results of the vote will be posted on April 15 on AbeBooks.co.uk

Boris Wertz, AbeBooks VP of marketing and business development, describes the thinking behind the event: ”We want to celebrate reading by celebrating the great selection of books that have been written. Since reading is a solitary thing, we also want to bring booklovers together. People often refer to AbeBooks as a community. This tour is one way to celebrate that.”

In addition, AbeBooks has partnered with Book Aid International, a London-based charity that supports readers and libraries in the developing world by providing secondhand books. For each vote that is made online, AbeBooks will donate one pound to Book Aid to assist with their efforts in sub-saharan Africa.
