ABEBOOKS LAUNCHES PROGRAM TO HELP BOOKSELLERS LIST USED BOOKS
FOR SALE ON AMAZON.CA
(Toronto, ON, November 6, 2003)AbeBooks, the worlds
largest online marketplace for used, rare and out-of-print books,
today announced a new program that helps their booksellers list
books through the newly-launched Amazon.ca Marketplace. The Marketplace
program (launched yesterday in
Toronto) enables Canadians to easily buy and sell new, used and
collectible merchandise on the same pages where Amazon.ca offers
the items new.
When Amazon.ca invited us to create a program for their
web site, we were ready. Our booksellers had been asking when
they could list their used, rare and out-of-print books on Amazon.ca.
Now weve created a program to help them do this, explains
Boris Wertz, Chief Operating Officer, AbeBooks.
The initiative makes the vast selection of used and rare books
offered by AbeBooks booksellers available to customers in
Canada through the Amazon.ca Marketplace program. For booksellers
its a simple way to sell books on Amazon.ca. The optional
AbeBooks program uploads books to Amazon.ca, simplifies order
processing, and pays booksellers each week for books sold. The
independent bookseller who takes part will reach Amazon.cas
customer base while still listing books on AbeBooks and other
sites. In this sense, AbeBooks acts as a sales channel manager
for the growing group of small, specialty booksellers who list
books on multiple websites.
Canadian book buyers will benefit from having more used books
to choose from, including secondhand textbooks, used copies of
recent paperback bestsellers, rare signed first editions, and
out-of-print titles that arent available through other retail
Amazon Marketplace connects buyers and sellers in a whole
new way, and creates real value for customers by offering them
more choices when making a purchase, said Marven Krug, general
manager, Amazon.ca. We are pleased to be able to offer our
customers the vast selection available through AbeBooks.
AbeBooks already lists books for booksellers on Amazon Marketplace
programs in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. Booksellers
who have joined the optional program report increased sales since
their books began appearing on Amazon sites through AbeBooks.
AbeBooks is the worlds largest online marketplace for used,
rare, and out-of-print books with over 45 million books listed
by 12,000 booksellers. AbeBooks connects those who buy books with
those who sell books, providing abundant selection at affordable
prices. AbeBooks is a global company based in Victoria BC, with
websites dedicated to book buyers in North America (AbeBooks.com),
the UK (AbeBooks.co.uk), France (AbeBooks.fr), and Germany (AbeBooks.de).
Through strategic partnerships with Amazon, Barnes & Noble,
and eBay/Half.com, AbeBooks has become the most important virtual
supplier of used books while expanding sales avenues for booksellers.
