ABEBOOKS ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO SENIOR MANAGEMENT
(Victoria, BC, August 12, 2003)- AbeBooks, the worlds
largest online marketplace for used, rare and out-of-print books,
today announced the promotion of Hannes Blum to President of AbeBooks
and welcomed Jayson Minard into the newly created VP Systems position.
Brent James, AbeBooks CEO and President explained: AbeBooks
continues to grow at a great pace. It is time to align the company
with the next phase of growth, and to welcome new faces into leadership
roles at AbeBooks.
Hannes Blum has been with AbeBooks for over three years, working
in senior management in both the Victoria and Dusseldorf offices.
He recently moved to Victoria, BC to become Vice President and
General Manager of AbeBooks Canada. His involvement with Internet
book marketplaces began as one of the founders of JustBooks, the
German company that AbeBooks acquired in 2001. At JustBooks, and
later at AbeBooks Europe, Hannes acted as Managing Director overlooking
business in the German, UK and French markets. Prior to founding
JustBooks, Hannes was with the Boston Consulting Group for three
years. He holds a Masters degree from the Technical University
Karlsruhe, Germany, where he graduated with honors in Business
Administration and Engineering.
Jayson Minard joins AbeBooks after five years at Borland Software
Corporation in Scotts Valley, California, where he held various
positions most recently as Chief Architect for the Java Business
Unit. He is experienced in defining technical strategies for high
tech companies and has a strong background in software development
and network operations. In addition to his technical skills, Jayson
brings a comfort level with fast-paced, hi-tech growth from his
experience working at Silicon Valley companies such as OpenAvenue,
StarBase, BEA, and Novell.
Brent James will leave his role as CEO and take on new responsibilities
as AbeBooks Chairman of the Board of Directors. Keith Waters will
change position from Chief Information Officer to offer his expertise
as a Business Consultant for AbeBooks. Both Brent and Keith will
continue to guide and contribute to AbeBooks in these roles.
