ABEBOOKS.COM REVIVES A GREAT LOVE FOR OLD BOOKS IN SANTA MONICA
17th October 2000
(Victoria, BC) - AbeBooks.com, the world's largest source
of rare and hard-to-find books, announces the debut presentation
of new book collecting seminars, November 4th and 5th, 2000 in
Santa Monica. AbeBooks is sponsoring book-industry veteran, David
Gregor, to facilitate the classes as part of abebooks' growing
effort to educate the public about significant books and literature.Readers,
collectors, book lovers and booksellers will flock to Santa Monica
for the premiere of the in-depth Book Collecting seminar, The
Art and Science of Book Collecting.
In the seminar, Gregor will discuss collecting for
fun and profit, touching on such issues as cultivating a passion
for books, identifying first editions and false firsts, understanding
book dealers' terminology, and protecting one's investment in
books. Everyone from the merely curious to the very serious is
invited to join the sessions.
"The majority of people involved in the collecting
of books today are as varied in their social, financial, and educational
background as are the subject areas in which they are interested.
For some, it is simply the result of their reading habits and
interests," Gregor said. "However, book collecting is
most certainly a passion. It can allow you to live in another
world for a time. It can enrich and inform your life and become
a great love."
"AbeBooks.com has a sincere long-term interest
in reviving books, expanding the book-buying population, and promoting
our over 6,700 member booksellers. These seminars are another
example of our company working closely with our member booksellers,
and bringing the latest and best information to book lovers in
a very personal way," company president Keith Waters said.
AbeBooks is holding the seminars the weekend before
the Glendale Book Fair, also in Santa Monica (at the Glendale
Civic Auditorium on November 11th & 12th).AbeBooks expert
Jerry Hevesi will be presenting a seminar on Internet Bookselling
on November 5th. Both seminars will be held at the Best Western
Gateway Hotel in Santa Monica CA. More details, costs, and registration
