ABEBOOKS.COM GOES LIVE WITH ABELIBRARY.COM
19th September, 2001
(Victoria, BC) - AbeBooks.com announces today the much
anticipated launch of its newest product, abelibrary.com, a web
site offering superior services and added purchasing options to
librarians. AbeBooks.com is the world's leading source of out-of-print,
rare, obscure, special edition, and secondhand books, offering
over 29 million books to librarians and consumers.
Abelibrary.com (www.abelibrary.com), the
new library-specific web site, allows librarians to shop the site
to save money on new and old titles, get hard-to-find books quickly,
replace worn-out books, build their special collections, find
a huge selection of out-of-print books, and fill their want lists.
It offers simplified billing through the abebooks.com purchase
order system, competitive pricing, priority customer service,
and additional searching and shipping features to make purchases
easy for librarians.
Abelibrary.com and the library program have been
developed in consultation with a panel of expert librarians. The
program still recruits additional members for the panel.
Kathryn Schlee, a librarian in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina and a member of the ABE Library Advisory Panel, says
"I often end up looking for out-of-print titles, which we
become aware of through citations or the recommendation of an
expert. I am hoping the results of this project will ease this
ordering process."
AbeBooks.com already serves some of the largest
specialty, research, institutional, and public libraries in America.
Under the new program, library buyers will be directed to the
new web site for a purchasing program and customer service system
that meets their specific needs. Librarians currently search abebooks.com
for books by ISBN, author, keyword, publisher, price, date, and
special attributes, taking advantage of abebooks.com's secure
server, payment options, and personal customer service. They are
also invited to leave their lists of wants - books they can't
find anywhere - and have them matched by abebooks.com's computers
and booksellers.
