ABEBOOKS.COM APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO
25th May 2001
(Victoria, BC) - AbeBooks.com today announces the selection
of Mr. Brent James as the company's new President and CEO. Mr.
James will spearhead plans to increase sales and revenue for abebooks.com's
book dealer members, and make "the web's best kept secret"
a little less "secret."
Mr. James brings a strong management and marketing background
to the online book industry. His previous credits include working
for some of North America's most successful technology companies,
including Mobile Data International (MDI), and later Mobile Data
Solutions Inc. (MDSI), a Canadian high-tech company that he helped
found and grow to revenues in excess of $80 million.
"It is truly an honour to be abebooks.com's new President
and CEO. The founders have built a remarkable business with a
well-deserved reputation of service to book dealers, and tremendous
opportunities for growth," Mr. James said. "Now I would
like to see abebooks.com provide our book dealers with ever-increasing
exposure, domestically and internationally."
Mr. James has been working as an advisor to abebooks.com's executives
for much of the past eighteen months. His experience with the
company has provided him with the insight and familiarity needed
to make a smooth transition to the new position.
Mr. James holds a Masters of Science degree in Management from
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), and an undergraduate
degree in Commerce from the University of British Columbia.
