ABEBOOKS WINS HIGHEST AWARD FROM CIPA
28th November, 2001
(Victoria, BC) - AbeBooks, the worlds largest network of independent
booksellers, won this years Canadian Information Productivity
Award (CIPA) for Best of Show at the ninth annual Gala Banquet in
Toronto last week.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brent James and Chief Information
Officer (CIO)/Founder Keith Waters accepted the award before a
black-tie audience of 800 senior executives. AbeBooks also won
first place in the e-commerce category.
It was a great honor to win, especially for Best of Show,
says James. We feel abebooks is the best kept secret on
the Internet but with recognition like this, we certainly dont
mind sharing the secret.
The CIPA Best of Show Award recognized abebooks for creating
extraordinary e-commerce software to build a worldwide bookselling
business. The software enables users to easily find and purchase
books from an inventory of over 30 million titles.
The secret behind abebooks is, from the very beginning
we ran it as a business without getting caught-up in the Internet
hype, says James. That strategy has kept us profitable
since day one.
CIPA recognizes outstanding businesses that show senior executives
the benefits that strategic application of information technology
can bring.
