ABEBOOKS.COM ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC ALLIANCE WITH KEY BOOK SITE
IN FRANCE
30th October 2000
(Victoria, BC) - AbeBooks.com, the world's leading source
for out-of-print and hard-to-find books, announces today a strategic
alliance with France's Chapitre.com. The new partnership will
expand the BC-based company's reach, giving it access to the worldwide
population of 15.2 million French-speaking consumers currently
online, and opening up new opportunities for the European Internet
industry.
AbeBooks.com will assist Chapitre in expanding their
world of rare, used, and out-of print books to French-speaking
consumers, starting this November. Chapitre is currently established
as a prominent book site in the world's French-language market.
With this new partnership, the Paris-based web site will add millions
of book titles to their inventory, and AbeBooks.com's 6,800-plus
member booksellers will benefit from increased exposure and sales
through the program.
"To be successful on the Internet, we have
to offer outstanding service to book buyers all over the globe.
Through our partnership with Chapitre, we will offer easy access
to our books on a site that French-speaking people are already
familiar with. Chapitre will handle the online transactions and
shipping in French, and introduce our books to the world's French-speaking
people," Keith Waters, president and co-founder of AbeBooks.com
said. "AbeBooks.com is always developing new programs to
reach the world's consumers on their terms and make online shopping
accessible to people in every market."
Hot on the heels of a partnership with Australia's
BiblioQuest book search company, this new alliance demonstrates
the incredible speed at which AbeBooks.com is growing. AbeBooks'
strategic alliances establish simplified procedures for customers
to buy books in international marketplaces, including consolidated
overseas shipping that keeps prices low for customers and enhanced
marketing efforts that reach specific consumer markets and enable
participating booksellers to sell more books.
