AbeBooks completes a five-country, four-language, 2,000 kilometre
journey in a red double-decker bus during their "Across Europe
with 40 Million Books" bus tour.
(VICTORIA, BC) March 31, 2003-AbeBooks, the world's largest online
marketplace for secondhand, rare, and out-of-print books completed
a five-country, 2,000 kilometre bus tour across the UK and Europe
last week to celebrate reading. The "Across Europe with 40
Million Books" bus tour began on March 16 at the London Book
Fair and-after stopping in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium-finished
at the Salon de Livres in Paris on March 24.
"We achieved our aim," explained Boris Wertz, AbeBooks
VP of marketing and business development: "to celebrate books
and reading with the public and visit some of our ten thousand
booksellers along the way. The tour raised awareness about AbeBooks
and the 40 million books listed by booksellers on our sites."
People of all ages visited the bus at each stop to take part in
contests, reading relays, and a draw to win a weekend for two
in Paris, Berlin or London. AbeBooks staff were present to speak
with booksellers and booklovers in English, French, German and
Dutch. The tour was announced in newspapers, magazines, and radio
stations along the way and photos captured the excitement of each
event. (A photo gallery and the contest entry form can be accessed
on AbeBooks.co.uk, AbeBooks.de and AbeBooks.fr until April 14th.
The contest ends on April 4th and the winner will be announced
April 14th.)
In addition to raising awareness, AbeBooks also raised money for
charities by partnering with literacy and book-related groups
in England, Germany and France. For each person who enters the
draw on an AbeBooks website, AbeBooks donates funds to Book Aid
International in London, and Biblionef in Germany and France.
AbeBooks is the world's largest online marketplace for secondhand,
rare, and out-of-print books with over 40 million books listed
by over 10,000 booksellers. AbeBooks connects those who buy books
