AWARD-WINNING ECOMMERCE PIONEER INVITES JOB-SEEKERS TO OPEN HOUSE
(Victoria, BC – 17 October 2007) One of Canada’s top rated employers, Victoria’s AbeBooks.com, is hosting its first ever ‘Open House’ event on Friday 2 November in order to attract new talent to its workforce.
The event is designed to give job-seekers a revealing insight into the AbeBooks.com working environment and the job opportunities that are available, but anyone who wants to learn more about the award-winning company that changed how used books are bought and sold may attend.
Listed as one of Canada’s top 100 employers for the past five years by Macleans Magazine, AbeBooks.com is headquartered in Victoria. The company is the world’s largest online marketplace for books with over 100 million new, used, rare, and out-of-print books listed for sale by thousands of independent booksellers in 57 countries. AbeBooks has millions of customers who purchase up to 25,000 books a day from its network of websites.
The Open House will feature an introduction to the company, guided tours of the office department-by-department, and details of current job opportunities. Anyone who leaves a resume will be entered into a draw to win $100 worth of books.
One of British Columbia’s major business success stories from the past 10 years, AbeBooks.com sold (USD) $170 million worth of books in 2006 and continues to grow, so job opportunities frequently arise. A variety of positions are currently open including account manager, java developer, systems administrator, and also customer support and marketing roles.
The Open House is between 12 noon and 2pm on 2 November on the 5th floor, 655 Tyee Road in Victoria. Directions and further details can be found at www.abebooks.com/jobs
Launched in 1996, AbeBooks.com also has offices in Germany and the USA, and employs around 130 staff – 95 of whom are based in Victoria. In May, the company moved into brand new top floor offices boasting stunning views of Victoria’s Gorge and harbour waterfront areas, the Juan de Fuca Strait and Washington State’s Olympic Mountains. The company has been consistently rated as one of Canada’s top employers in recent years thanks to its extensive benefits package, competitive wages and bonuses, innovative employee perks, and enlightened working culture.
“We have never opened our doors to the public before,”
said AbeBooks.com HR director Judy Hamza. “Although we recruit
staff from around the world, many of our best employees have come from
right under our noses, so we know there is great talent in British Columbia.
We want to show what AbeBooks.com can offer to job-seekers.”
