BOOKLOVERS BENEFIT AS IBERLIBRO.COMS UNIQUE INVENTORY OF SPANISH BOOKS IS INTEGRATED INTO ABEBOOKS.COM DATABASE
( Victoria, BC - 19 December 2006) Booklovers visiting IberLibro.com, the Spanish online marketplace for new, used and rare books, can now choose from more than 100 million books after the site’s inventory was fully integrated with the database of its parent company, AbeBooks.com.
Founded in 1999, IberLibro.com was acquired by AbeBooks – the world’s largest online marketplace for new, used, rare and out-of-print books – in October 2004. Until now, the Spanish website has operated as an independent platform with separate inventory.
The integration means IberLibro’s visitors can now buy books from booksellers all over the world who are listing through AbeBooks, while AbeBooks’ customers gain access to IberLibro’s unique selection of Spanish-language books. IberLibro’s booksellers will receive access to the millions of book-buyers who regularly visit the AbeBooks’ network of sites.
“There is international demand for Spanish-language books,” said Hannes Blum, president and CEO of AbeBooks. “More than half of IberLibro’s orders are shipped to the United States so the integrated database will only make it even easier for buyers using any of our websites to buy books in Spanish.”
AbeBooks’ sales data reveals customers from Spain and Latin American countries also buy books in languages other than Spanish. Last year, they placed around 35 per cent of their orders to international booksellers.
“Spanish speakers prefer to buy books from a Spanish-language website,” explains Blum. “So we want to make IberLibro.com their preferred website to find and buy any book from any bookseller anywhere.”
IberLibro.com will not be rebranded as AbeBooks.es because of its high level of recognition in Spain where it is the leading online marketplace for books.
