ABEBOOKS.COM TO HOST BOOKSELLER SUMMIT AT HQ ON 3 FEBRUARY
(Victoria, BC January 30, 2006) Online booksellers from across North America will be attending a bookseller summit hosted by AbeBooks.com, the world's largest online marketplace for new and used books, at its Vancouver Island headquarters.
It is the first time that AbeBooks.com, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in June, has staged such an event. More than 30 online booksellers from USA and Canada will attend the summit on 3 February. Sellers will travel from states such as Georgia, Minnesota, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
Thousands of independent professional booksellers list books for sale on the AbeBooks' network of five websites that offers over 80 million new, used, rare and out-of-print books in total. AbeBooks hopes to gather valuable opinions from its booksellers at the event as it plans for continued success.
"We are thrilled so many booksellers will be making the trip," said Sue Connors, AbeBooks' director of sales and account management. "AbeBooks.com itself never touches or owns a single book but helps thousands of independent booksellers by putting them in touch with millions of buyers around the world. We are looking forward to spending time with the sellers and listening to what they have to say."
Online used bookselling has become increasingly popular. In September, an independent report by the Book Industry Study Group revealed online sales of used books were worth $609 million in 2004 - a 33 per cent increase from 2003.
AbeBooks.com is the world's largest online marketplace for books, with over 80 million new, used, rare, and out-of-print titles listed for sale by thousands of independent booksellers from around the world. AbeBooks has millions of customers who purchase up to 20,000 books a day from its 5 global websites. A true internet success story, AbeBooks has been selling books online since 1996, and is a private company based in Victoria, BC Canada, with offices in Germany and Spain. Internet Retailer magazine ranked AbeBooks at No. 58 among North American online retailers in June 2005.
