Responsibilities

  • Defining the product strategy
  • Developing product specific business cases, recommendations and requirements
  • Prioritizing product requirements and making trade-offs within the product development process
  • Tracking performance metrics of current products and services
  • Driving and applying research about the consumer, category and competition to product and business decisions
  • Engaging with partners and customers to drive product plans and requirements
  • Working within cross-functional teams to help define and drive innovative product strategies
  • Leading a wide variety of projects, including new product analysis and development, profit and loss forecasting, industry analysis and building alliances
  • Owning the product throughout its life cycle, including gathering product requirements, defining product vision, creating and testing design concepts, and working closely with engineering to implement and iterate

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in product management, preferably in a software or web service company. Experience managing technical projects and the ability to work with agile teams and influence their decision-making are key requirements. You should be highly organized, and have excellent interpersonal skills and an affinity for technology. You’ll have demonstrable experience in identifying new business opportunities and in developing and implementing plans that capitalize on these opportunities. All candidates must have a BA or BS; an MBA is highly desired; a degree in a CS field is a huge plus. You must be proficient in a variety of analytical tools and have an excellent understanding of ecommerce metrics.

Quality Assurance Analyst

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-4 years QA experience doing performance, functional and reliability testing on an e-commerce site

Manager, Online Marketing and Global Search

Reporting to the Director Marketing, the Manager OM & GS manages the strategy, programs, budget and results for the complete online process, from user to visitor, directing the user to the best landing page in order to convert the user to a customer. The Manager will set the strategies and tactics around the use of specific marketing vehicles, specifically search marketing, affiliate programs and natural search. From a global perspective, the manager will ensure that AbeBooks offers the most-up-to-date and effective use of the natural search channel.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Innovation – drive online marketing initiatives including establishing the necessary infrastructure, organization, key processes and partnerships as well as assuring the collection and analysis of key business metrics. Must recognize and capitalize on new industry trends and opportunities especially in the natural search arena.
  • Tactical Execution and Program Management – deployment and management of online marketing and budget spends across the channels. Assure the best budget use between natural search, paid search and affiliate initiatives. The Manager must be a leader in best practices regarding Natural Search, Paid Search and affiliate marketing.
  • Leadership – maintains positive and productive relationships with internal and external partners. Displays leadership and independence as an individual contributor. The Manager leads the OM team at the AbeBooks Victoria office.
  • Product and Business Planning – has solid understanding of Abebooks product capabilities and business model. Helps in defining the product roadmap to achieve the goals of the group. Holds full responsibility for the Natural Search Product Line and drives the necessary measures with Product Management Group and the Systems group.
  • Communication – strong verbal and written communications, both internally and externally. Ability to facilitate meetings, presentations and discussions to uncover issues and to find solutions. Ability to pull together teams to drive and influence new ideas or to resolve issues.
  • Analytics and Judgment – world class analytical capabilities. Can effectively identify, understand, model and communicate key metrics and insights on areas of responsibility. Can utilize analytics and complex data with sound business judgment to make strategic and tactical recommendations.
  • Specific Projects and responsibilities:
    • Manage and steer affiliate marketing for North America and ANZ
    • Manage and steer paid search activities in North America and ANZ
    • Manage and steer the natural search product line for all AbeBooks web sites

Your Profile:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent, MBA is a plus
  • Deep knowledge of online marketing and / or direct marketing strongly preferred
  • 4-5 years professional experience with significant online marketing experience
  • Project management experience and knowledge of related tools or methodology
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation
  • Ability to connect and motivate others, providing and exemplifying strong leadership for the team

As a Production DBA with AbeBooks your will be a key Member of the Systems Database Group responsible for providing overall database development and support.

Responsible for providing day-to-day support and maintenance for key Oracle databases and services of our enterprise application platform:

  • Responsible for investigating potential database related issues; some urgent occurrences may require you to be available via a blackberry when needed
  • Monitor database events and proactively optimize system performance
  • Work with the db and operations teams to automate reactive procedures where possible, and to promote rapid response to known db related issues
  • Work with other teams to promote changes to production and other environments
  • Accountable for maintaining database configurations in compliance with established best practices
  • Oversee data fixes for business issues or to address application issues

  • Work in conjunction with other operations, application development, and business groups to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements from the database perspective

Operating Systems Administrator

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our Systems department. As a member of our Systems group you will join our team in providing UNIX systems administration and support in our highly available mission critical environment.

  • Perform all operational and administrative activities for system management including diagnosing/troubleshooting complex problems.
  • Identify and solve issues in a fast-paced atmosphere.

Qualifications

  • Experience with JAVA and Tomcat application servers Familiarity with Cisco network hardware, IOS and standard network protocol principals and functions
  • Extensive experience in administering Unix Systems. This includes installation, patch installation, disk configuration, network configuration, and familiarity with all of the standard UNIX tools.
  • Should be thoroughly familiar with internet protocols and configuration of servers that support them: HTTP, FTP, POP, SENDMAIL, DNS, NFS, SMB, SSH.
