Updating Your Account Information

You can easily update your account information from the Members Menu.  Updating your account information ensures your orders are delivered to the correct address and that your credit card payments are processed properly.

On the Updating Your Account Information screen, you can update:

• Your store or email address
• Your shipping address, contact information or nickname for the AbeBooks forums
• Your language preferences or currency
• Your store description
• Any shipping terms you may have
• The URL of a custom homepage

To update your account information:

1. Click [sign on] and enter your E-mail Address and Password.
2. Click [Your Personal Information] in the Members Menu.
3. Click [Update your account information] in the Personal Information menu.
4. Enter the changes in the appropriate text boxes and select any new options.
5. Click the [Update Details] button at the bottom of the page.

Fields marked with an asterisk ( * ) indicate required pieces of information.

Nightly Want Matching

After your personal information, there is a section regarding matching styles and newsletter subscriptions.  To assist you, these terms have been defined below:

Currency: Selects the currency displayed with search results.  If you select a currency other than US dollars, you will see the price displayed in US dollars, and in brackets beside the US price, the price in the currency you selected.  For example, if your currency was set to Canadian Dollars, a book with a US price of $5 would display as: US $5.00 (C$6.73).  

Nightly Matching: When you set up a want, we match your want each night.  The results to matching can either be tight or loose and the default setting is loose. Tight matching uses specific keywords and will not send you any results that do not specifically match the keywords you inserted.  Loose matching does not use keywords and will send you a wider variety of matches.  For more information about creating wants, please read the section on wants.

HomeBase: If you are considering becoming a bookseller and would like to receive information on our HomeBase inventory management program, sign up for our HomeBase mailing list.  Product updates will be sent to you.

Newsletter: AbeBooks sends out a newsletter to its clients detailing changes to the Web site, informative tips and featured booksellers.  If you would like to subscribe to the newsletter, please click on the box so a check mark appears.  Should you want to un-subscribe, come to this screen and click on the box so the check mark disappears.

Credit Cards: Use the link to add or update any credit card information.  Credit card numbers are encrypted and stored on a secure server.  When you order a book, the credit card number is used to process payment for the order.  If you're uncomfortable about using a credit card online, many of our booksellers accept other forms of payment, such as check or money order.

Shipping Terms

Shipping Terms is a required field on the Update Your Personal Information screen.  We have pre-populated the Shipping Terms field with the following information:

The Shipping Terms information was requested by buyers and is displayed when buyers click on book details from the search results screen.  If your shipping terms differ from the default, you may change the information.  

Information you may want to include in the Shipping Terms box:

• How the book is packaged.  (What packing materials will be used to prevent damage during transit)
• If insurance is available at buyer's request or if all packages are sent with insurance
• If all packages are sent by traceable means of shipment, or if this is at buyer's request
• What costs for oversized books may be

Note:

• As Shipping Terms is a required field, you cannot delete the pre-populated information without replacing it with other shipping information.  Deleting the existing information without replacing it will result in an error when the page is saved.
