Returning a Book / Requesting a Refund

We realize that sometimes it is necessary to return a book to the bookseller or to request a refund for an order that hasn't arrived, so we've made it possible for you to easily start the process through your AbeBooks account.

Return Reasons

 

To initiate an AbeBooks return:

  1. While signed onto your AbeBooks account, click [your account] above the red banner.

  2. Click [Your Purchases] in the Members Menu.

  3. Click [View your purchases] in the Your Purchases menu.

  4. To display your orders:

  5. Click [Item Details] beside the book you wish to return.

  6. Click the [Request to Return Book] button on the Item Details page.

  7. Select an option from the [Reason] list.  Select the most accurate reason for your return; processes are different for each of the return reasons. If your reason for returning the book isn't shown, please contact the bookseller directly for more information rather than using an incorrect return reason


  8. Type an explanation for the return in the [Comments:] text box.

  9. Click the [Initiate Return/Refund] button to complete your request.

 

An e-mail message is sent to the bookseller, including the comments you entered, and an e-mail confirmation about the return is sent to you. The e-mail messages include the following information:

 
Your return will be completed when the bookseller receives the book back, or when they process the return online. We do recommend using a traceable method when shipping the book back to the seller.  If the book has not arrived, booksellers may report a missing shipment 14 days after the return is initiated.
If you requested a refund for an order that hasn't arrived, the refund will process automatically unless the bookseller sent the package using a trackable shipping method.  In the case where a bookseller has provided tracking information, you'll be asked to contact the bookseller for further information and for help with tracking the shipment.
