AbeBooks' ISBN Matching Service

Matching ISBNs allows us to enhance your listings for greater buyer appeal, with further information such as a synopsis, review and if you do not provide a picture of your book, a stock photograph. Note: The synopsis, review and stock photograph are only added if these details are available through our ISBN database. For more information, please review "How Your Book Listings Are Displayed".

ISBN Matching Fields

We use the following criteria for ISBN eligible books:

Author Title (including subtitle)
Publisher
Year of Publication
Place of Publication
Binding

Booksellers can access our online ISBN-Lookup feature using the [List and Maintain Your Books] link available from the [Your Books] section of the Members Menu. ISBN information can also be entered into the HomeBase 2.3 ISBN field. At any time, booksellers can use our online system to modify the ISBN’s associated with their listings to ensure that it is the correct number assigned to their book. If you are not a HomeBase user and would like to include ISBN’s with the books you upload to us, please ensure your database has a separate field for ISBN’s. If you are using a book inventory management program other than HomeBase, please put the ISBN in a separate field. If you are unable to add an ISBN field, please enter the ISBN in the description field and precede the number with "ISBN:" e.g. ISBN:0747551006 To ensure seamless processing of your upload files, please be sure to contact AbeBooks Customer Support before making any changes to your inventory files

Order Processing

Important: The ISBN will be displayed on the order-processing screen to give booksellers the opportunity to check the ISBN against each order before processing. If the book does not match the ISBN, you may reject the order using the status ISBN Mismatch. This option is only available for listings that have been ISBN-matched, not those that have had ISBNs entered by the bookseller.
