Removing Books from the Online Inventory

When you sell a book on AbeBooks or one of our Reseller Program Web sites, it is automatically removed from your online inventory. You need to mark this book as "Sold" in your own inventory system to prevent it from being re-uploaded to the AbeBooks Web site. If you sell a book in your store, you also need to notify AbeBooks of which books to remove from your online inventory.

Your deleted book inventory records can be uploaded to AbeBooks online using a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program. This will only work if you are connected to the Internet; it will complete more quickly if you connect during a time when your Internet Service Provider is not very busy. You can create a file of the book records you would like to delete and name it "delete.txt" (or the file extension name of your custom conversion) and send it to us via FTP. You can also create a file of just the book ID's you would like to delete with the file name "delnum.txt" (or the file extension of your custom conversion) and send that to us.

When AbeBooks receives your file, it will be uploaded to www.AbeBooks.com and your deleted books will be removed from your online inventory. This is generally completed in about 24 hours.

Notes:

If you normally send us a file with your inventory changes but choose to use the online system to delete a listing, you will need to ensure that this book record is removed or marked as sold in your data file before next uploading the file. If this is not done, the book will be put back online as available.
AbeBooks does not recognize the status "On Hold" in your inventory management software. Books marked with this status are listed as for sale on the AbeBooks Web site.
