Transferring HomeBase Data - New Computer
There may be an occasion were you need to transfer your current HomeBase
book data file to a new computer. You need to install HomeBase on the
new computer prior to copying or transferring the data file.
To transfer your book data:
- In HomeBase, create a backup file (.bkp) of your
book data by going to [File] and
selecting [Backup]. The
backup will be located at: C:\Program
Files\hb2\BACKUP (unless you installed HomeBase in a different
directory).
- Transfer the .bkp file to the second computer, using
one of the methods listed below. Copy
it to the C:\Program Files\hb2\BACKUP
folder.
- In HomeBase on the second computer, recover the backup
file.
Possible ways to transfer your book data file:
- Copy the hbdata.hbd file to floppy disk or CD, and
then import it in the new computer. This
may require archiving the file to reduce its size. (Refer to the Help
of the specific archiving software for instructions).
- If the two computers are connected over a network,
copy the hbdata.hbd file directly to the new computer over the network.
Refer to Windows Help on Sharing a folder
or drive with other people.
- If you are planning to have two or more computers
networked and using the same HomeBase data file, please contact
us for specific instructions on setting up HomeBase on a network.
- For large hbdata.hbd files, use FTP to upload your
file to an off-site location. When
the new computer is installed, download the file to the new computer.
Please
contact your Internet Service Provider for details about this procedure.
- If the file is small, send an e-mail message to yourself
with the file attached. Receive
the e-mail message on the new computer and copy the attachment to correct
location.
