Exporting Book Data Files to Access 2000

You can export your HomeBase book data into Microsoft® Access® - version 2000.  The process involves two separate procedures, creating an export file in HomeBase and linking the file in Access.

To create an export file of your book data:

  1. In the HomeBase File menu click [Import/Export | Export]
  2. Select the [Books] option.
  3. Clear the [Changed Since] checkbox, and select the [All Books] option.
  4. Click [OK].
  5. In the Save As Type list, select [Tab Separated File (*.tab)]
  6. Click [Save]

The export file will be saved in the folder: C:\Program Files\hb2\export.  The file has a name similar to the following: db200106091017.tab.

To link the export file to Access:

  1. Open Microsoft Access
  2. Click [File | Open].
  3. Browse to your export file and click [Open]
  4. In the Link Text Wizard, select the [Delimited] option and click [Next].
  5. Select the [Tab] option under Choose the delimiter that separates your fields and click [Next].
  6. Click a column heading (for example, Field1).  Under the Field Options type the name of the field.  This corresponds to the first name in each column (for example, BookNumber).
  7. Complete the name change for each column and click [Next].
  8. Type a Linked Table Name and click [Finish].

Your linked file is listed as a "Table".  Select the file and click [Open] to view your database in table format.

Once you have your HomeBase records in Access you will be able to manipulate the data to suit your needs.
