Exporting Book Data Files to Access 2000
You can export your HomeBase book data into Microsoft® Access® - version
2000. The
process involves two separate procedures, creating an export file in HomeBase
and linking the file in Access.
To create an export file of your book data:
- In the HomeBase File menu click [Import/Export
| Export]
- Select the [Books]
option.
- Clear the [Changed
Since] checkbox, and select the [All
Books] option.
- Click [OK].
- In the Save As Type
list, select [Tab Separated File (*.tab)]
- Click [Save]
The export file will be saved in the folder: C:\Program Files\hb2\export.
The file
has a name similar to the following: db200106091017.tab.
To link the export file to Access:
- Open Microsoft Access
- Click [File | Open].
- Browse to your export file and click [Open]
- In the Link Text Wizard, select the [Delimited]
option and click [Next].
- Select the [Tab]
option under Choose the delimiter that
separates your fields and click [Next].
- Click a column heading (for example, Field1). Under
the Field Options type the name
of the field. This
corresponds to the first name in each column (for example, BookNumber).
- Complete the name change for each column and click
[Next].
- Type a Linked Table
Name and click [Finish].
Your linked file is listed as a "Table". Select
the file and click [Open] to view
your database in table format.
Once you have your HomeBase records in Access you will be able to manipulate
the data to suit your needs.
