Uploading Wants

If you have many wants that you have generated on your computer and would like to add them to your online inventory all at once, you can upload the file to AbeBooks rather than adding them one at a time.  Some book inventory software, such as HomeBase 2.3, can create a separate wants file you can send directly from the software.

If you are unable to send a file directly from your software, because you use a spreadsheet of database, you can create a wants data file. This follows the same procedure as creating a book data file.

The only required fields for your wants file are:

To upload your wants to AbeBooks:

1. Click [sign on] and enter your E-mail Address and Password.
2. There are two ways of locating the upload wants function:
• Click [Your Wants] from the Members Menu.
• Click [Uploads] from the Members Menu.
3. Click [Upload your want records].
4. Click [Browse] and locate the file you want to send us.
5. Click the [Send File] button.

Between 6 and 24 hours after we receive your file, you should receive an e-mail confirmation and an "Update Completion Report" stating how many wants were in the file and whether they were added or deleted from your list.

Notes:

• If you are uploading wants for the first time, it will take longer for your file to process because we will need to set up a conversion program for your account.

• If your file is larger than 50MB, you are required to use FTP software such as WS_FTP (for PCs) or Fetch (for MAC) to send it to AbeBooks. Both of these programs are available as a free trial and a registered version from their Web sites.
