Uploading Books Via FTP

Your inventory can be uploaded to AbeBooks using a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program.  FTP is the best way to transfer your book data to AbeBooks.

If you use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to upload your files to us, the settings (parameters) you need to use are as follows:

FTP name:

ftp.AbeBooks.com

UserID:

Your AbeBooks UserID; not your AbeBooks E-mail Address

Password:

Your AbeBooks Password; case-sensitive

Windows Users

If you do not use HomeBase 2.3 or another book management software with FTP functionality, we suggest using WS_FTP™ to upload your book file to us.

To use the WS_FTP program to send your files to AbeBooks:

  1. Ensure you are connected to the Internet.  Start WS_FTP. This will start the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program and the FTP Session Profile window will be displayed.
  2. In the Profile Name box, type ABE.
  3. Type ftp.AbeBooks.com in the Host Name text box.  The Host Type should be set to Automatic Detect.
  4. Enter your AbeBooks User ID.
  5. Enter your AbeBooks password.  Select the [Save Password] check box.
  6. Click [Save].
  7. Click [OK]. The left side of the screen (Local System) will display the files on your computer and the right side (Remote System) shows your AbeBooks directory.
  8. Double-click the file you want to send.  A copy of the file will be transferred from your Local System to the AbeBooks Remote System. The file is finished transferring when the filename appears on the right side of the screen.
  9. Click the [Exit] button to exit the FTP program.

Once your file is received, the file's contents should be applied to your online inventory within 6 - 24 hours.
