Setting Your Vacation Status

To avoid buyer disappointment and lost orders, if you are going to be away from your bookstore or will be unable to process orders for three days or more, we ask that you set your account to vacation status until you return. (Note:  To use the Vacation Handler tool your "vacation time" must be set to a minimum of 3 days.)  When you set your bookstore to vacation status, your books are also removed from the Web sites of all the Reseller Programs you participate in.

While your account is set to vacation, the minimum monthly subscription rate (0-500 books) is applicable and your book count will show as 0 books during this time.  Your AbeBooks statement for the month following your vacation will reflect a lower book count as your average book count for the previous month is displayed, and your subscription will be pro-rated against your usual book count for the time your account was in vacation status.

Please do not upload inventory files to AbeBooks during the time your account is on vacation.  Doing so will result in these books appearing online and as being available for purchase.

To set your account to Vacation Status:

  1. Click [sign on] and enter your E-mail Address and Password.

  2. Click [Your Books] in the Members Menu.

  3. Click [Manage Vacations] in the Your Books menu.

  4. Using the drop-down boxes, enter your "Vacation" Start date.

  5. If you know the date that you would like your inventory back online, use the drop-down boxes to enter an "End date".  If you do not know when you will be returning, you may leave these fields as is and can come back to the Vacation Handler when you do know or when you are ready to return.

  6. Click the [Schedule Vacation] button.

  7. A confirmation of your vacation start date, along with instructions as to how to restore your inventory appears.

When vacation status becomes effective, your account is set to "Inactive" status and your online book total is set to "0". Your inventory is removed until you restore it.

While on vacation

During the time that your account is on vacation, weekly e-mails will be sent to you as a reminder that your books are offline.  If you access "Your Books" from the Members Menu, you will see a notice that your account status is "On Holiday".  You are also given the option to restore your inventory or to change the end date of your vacation period.
