Updating Your Account Information

You can easily update your account information from the Members Menu.  Updating your account information ensures your orders are delivered to the correct address and that your credit card payments are processed properly.

On the Updating Your Account Information screen, you can update:

 

To update your account information:

  1. Click [sign on] and enter your E-mail Address and Password.
  2. Click [Your Personal Information] in the Members Menu.

  3. Click [Update your account information] in the Personal Information menu.

  4. Enter the changes in the appropriate text boxes and select any new options.
  5. Click the [Update Details] button at the bottom of the page.


     

Fields marked with an asterisk ( * ) indicate required pieces of information.

Account Information

The first section of your "Account Information" page records your personal (business) information:
 

You may edit any of the above information with the exception of the Userid. If you require an adjustment to your AbeBooks Userid, please contact AbeBooks Customer Support. The "Nickname" field refers to the name that you would like to use on the AbeBooks Community Forums.  Note:  We do require a phone number for all AbeBooks sellers for our reference however; you may choose to not have this number displayed on the web site.
 

After your personal information, there is a section regarding your currency preference, matching styles and newsletter subscriptions.  

To assist you, these terms have been defined below:

Currency: This is the currency you use for your book prices sent to AbeBooks as part of your inventory. Prices will be converted to the equivalent amount in the default currency when displayed on the AbeBooks sites. (E.g. USD for the AbeBooks.com site, GBP for the AbeBooks.co.uk site) If you wish to change the currency you use when sending us your inventory, please contact AbeBooks Customer Support so that we may do this for you.

Nightly Matching: When you set up a want, we match your want each night.  The results to matching can either be tight or loose and the default setting is loose. Tight matching uses specific keywords and will not send you any results that do not specifically match the keywords you inserted.  Loose matching does not use keywords and will send you a wider variety of matches.  For more information about creating wants, please read the section on wants.

HomeBase: If you are considering becoming a bookseller and would like to receive information on our HomeBase inventory management program, sign up for our HomeBase mailing list.  Product updates will be sent to you.

Newsletter: AbeBooks sends out a newsletter to its clients detailing changes to the Web site, informative tips and featured booksellers.  If you would like to subscribe to the newsletter, please click on the box so a check mark appears.  Should you wish to un-subscribe, come to this screen and click on the box so the check mark disappears.

Shipping Terms

Shipping Terms is a required field on the Update Your Personal Information screen.  We have pre-populated the Shipping Terms field with the following information:

Shipping Terms are displayed when buyers click on the book title or your bookstore name from the search results screen.  You may change the information but as Shipping Terms is a required field, you cannot delete the pre-populated information without replacing it with other shipping information.  Deleting the existing information without replacing it will result in an error when you attempt to save the updated information.

Information you may want to include in the Shipping Terms box:

 

GST Registration Number

If your business is Canadian GST registered, your registration number should be entered in this field.  Please do not enter any other taxation number in this box.

Bookstore Information

You may wish to provide further information regarding your store such as a description of your business, any genre or publication format you specialize in, or any associations that you belong to.  Buyers will see this information when clicking on a book title or your bookstore name within search results. This information will also be used if you choose to create a free AbeBooks homepage.  

You can also adjust your account settings to display or not display your telephone and/or fax numbers or a link (URL) to any existing homepage that you may have.
