Requesting Extra Charges

If the shipping amount charged for an AbeBooks' order will not cover the cost of shipping a heavy book, tax or insurance, you can use the Extra Shipping feature to request these extra charges. An order requiring extra charges follows the normal E-commerce order processing procedure.  Requesting extra charges for an AbeBooks order is a part of that procedure.  You can also request extra charges for a bookseller direct order.

To process your orders:

  1. Click [sign on] and enter your E-mail Address and Password.
  2. Click [Process Your Orders] from the Quick Links Menu (located to the right of the Members Menu).
  3. A list of ordered books will display.  The list will automatically set to [Ordered] status from the Order Status list.
  4. Locate the order you would like to process and click [Process] in the Process/Review column.
 

To request extra charges for an AbeBooks E-commerce order:

  1. Select the [Extra Shipping] option in the Status column.
  2. Click the [Save Order Changes] button.
  3. Enter the extra charges amount in the Increase By text box.
  4. Type an explanation of the extra charges in the Explanation for Shipping Adjustment text box.
  5. Click the [Save Shipping Details] button.
 

An e-mail message is sent to the book buyer on your behalf.  When the book buyer accepts the request, you receive an e-mail confirmation. You can then complete the order process with the extra charges included in the price. 

To request extra charges for a bookseller direct order:

  1. Click the e-mail address of the book buyer located in the Order Information box.
  2. Include the order details in the e-mail message, as well as the amount of extra charges and the reason why you are requesting them.
  3. Send the e-mail message to the book buyer.
 

When the book buyer confirms acceptance of the extra charges, you can add the additional cost to the order and complete the order process.
