Returning a book
If you bought a book from another member bookseller, you may find reason
to return a book to the bookseller or to request a refund for a book that
has not arrived. You
can initiate the return from the "Track Your Purchases" page
within 14 days of receiving the book.
To initiate an AbeBooks return:
- Click [sign on]
and enter your E-mail Address and Password.
- Click [Your Purchases]
in the Members Menu.
- Click [View your
purchases] in the Your Purchases menu.
- Display your orders:
- Type the Sales
Order No. and click [List Orders].
- In the Orders
per page list, click the number of your choice, and then click
[List Orders].
- Click [Item Details]
beside the book you wish to return.
- Click the [Request
to Return Book] button on the "Item Details" page.
- Select an option from the [Return
Reason] list.
- Type an explanation for the return in the [Comments to be sent to seller] text
box.
- Click the [Initiate
Return] button to complete your
request.
An e-mail message is sent to the bookseller, including the comments
you entered, and an e-mail confirmation about the return is sent to you.
The e-mail messages include the following information:
- Your purchase order number
- Book information and the reason for the return
- Order date
- The return shipping address
- Book return tracking information ** This information
is important **
Reasons for Returns
Select the most accurate reason for your return; processes are different
for each of the return reasons.
- Item did not arrive:
The estimated delivery date (calculated based on business days and the
bookseller's two-day allowance to send the book) has passed and the book
has not arrived. If the bookseller has provided tracking information,
you will be given the tracking number and asked to contact the shipping
company directly. Please
note: To allow for a reasonable delay in delivery, a return
cannot be initiated until 15 days after the maximum delivery date.
- Buyer does not want
item: The book buyer has changed their mind. Only the book price
will be refunded; the book buyer will be responsible for the cost of return
shipping. (The bookseller has the option to refuse returns requested for
this reason.)
- Item was damaged:
The item was damaged during shipping.
- Item not as described:
The condition of the book does not match the bookseller's description
on www.abebooks.com.
- Incorrect item delivered:
The title, cover or edition of the book is different than what was described
on www.abebooks.com.
