New
Consumer Advertising Campaign
June 1st, we launched our new print advertising campaign tied
to the slogan: "Because you read". This campaign promotes
all the books our booksellers offer, and will be running throughout
the summer, taking us to a new campaign for the Christmas season.
New
Books
Abebooks invites our booksellers to list their new books on our
sites. Over the past few years our booksellers have been adding
new books to their Abebooks listings. In 1999, we removed our
policy of having a "five percent limit on new books for all
booksellers", and we estimate that new books make up 10%
of all books currently listed on Abebooks. The trend towards buying
and selling new books on our website is growing, and it is supported
accordingly with our marketing efforts.
To let buyers know that Abebooks is a source for all books, our
new advertising campaign includes a revised tagline: Discover
the world's largest online marketplace for new, used, rare, and
out-of-print books. Recently at Book Expo America, we officially
announced our new book inventory to the North American book trade,
with great success.
We
believe very strongly that new books will bring new buyers and
promotional opportunities that will benefit all Abebooks sellers.
Our own research (and the results of recent market studies) shows
that the majority of new book buyers are used book buyers, and
the reverse is also true. As competitive sites continue to extend
their product lines well beyond the book inventory into unrelated
products, we believe our booksellers will benefit by increasing
the selection of books we offer, making Abebooks the best place
to find any book.
Our
search results will remain the same, and new books will continue
to share the same "shelf space" as used, rare and out-of-print
books. Our commitment to sell only books offered by our member
booksellers, and to not sell books ourselves, remains the same.
IMPORTANT
SECURITY REMINDER TO ALL BOOKSELLERS
Please remember that you should not disclose your Abebooks Seller
ID information to any person or business for any reason. Disclosure
of this information is not necessary for any business purpose
outside of the Abebooks system, and poses a potential security
risk to your account. For this reason, it is a violation of your
Abebooks Bookseller Agreement to disclose your confidential account
information.
If
you have shared your Abebooks Seller ID Number with anyone at
any time, please change it as soon as possible by emailing us
at sellertech@abebooks.com. Thank you for your attention to this
matter.
As
always, please be sure to check our Security
and Trust Page, should you have any questions on how to keep
your account secure.

Book Festivals and Fairs
Book
Expo America: Many of you came to visit us at BEA June 4-6th in
Chicago. It was great to see you there! Congratulations to Jayne
Wyatt of Book Bazaar, winner of our trip for two to beautiful
Victoria, BC; home of Abebooks.
20th
Annual Printers Row Bookfair: We attended the fair and worked
with our member booksellers to give out plenty of promotional
materials to fair attendees! In total, between BEA and Printers
Row, we gave out 15,000-20,000 branded items. It was a great success!
Thanks for all your positive feedback!
Hay-on-Wye:
Staffers from our European office were there to support our booksellers
by providing promotional materials and directing buyers to participating
bookseller shops. Buyers received post cards with information
on participating bookstores, whom they visited to receive their
free promotional gifts.
See
for yourself how we promoted our booksellers at Hay-on-Wye and
Printer's Row by viewing the bookmarks

products here. If there is a festival coming up in your area
and you would like to order some promotional materials, please

Great news for booksellers in Australia and New Zealand!
This month we will launch our Australian microsite, focusing exclusively
on Australian and New Zealand content! The new microsites can
be viewed at www.abebooks.com.au
and www.abebooks.co.nz.
The launch of these sites coincides with our advertising campaign
targeting Australian customers through local monthly and weekly
publications. In addition, an Abebooks staff member will be in
Australia from mid-July until the end of August to meet our Abebooks
booksellers and find out from you how we can meet your specific
bookselling needs. If you would like to find out more about the
itinerary or would like to schedule a meeting while we're "Down
Under" please visit
this page.
ISBN
Matching Opt-Out: Many students and other book lovers search for
books on Abebooks using ISBN, and Abebooks' exclusive ISBN matching
service will automatically match your eligible books to an ISBN
to help these buyers find your books. We take every precaution
with our comprehensive matching service to ensure the accuracy
of matches being made, but there may be times where assigning
an ISBN would not be appropriate, such as when a book was published
prior to ISBN's being assigned. This is why many booksellers have
requested a feature to let them "exclude" certain books
from being matched, providing them with full control over their
book listings.
In response to this feedback, we're pleased to announce an opt-out
function for ISBN matching. Simply enter "NOISBN" into
the keywords field of the books that you do not want to be matched,
and Abebooks will not match that book with an ISBN.
Important
note: this will result in the book not being searchable by ISBN
if you not have included ISBN information, but will also ensure
that an ISBN will not be incorrectly assigned to it.

Oprah's
Summer Pick
Oprah's
Book Club has made Leo Tolstoy's ANNA KARENINA the summer reading
selection. The official designation goes to Richard Pevear and
Larissa Volokhonsky's Penguin Classics translation from 2001.
Many of our booksellers see significant sales on Oprah's Book
Club picks, across both new and used categories. This nod from
Oprah has placed Anna Karenina at the top of the NY Times
paperback bestseller list. View

Author
Interviews
In
addition to our regular homepage features, we're also developing
buyer interest in our bookseller's inventories through Author
Interviews, prominently displayed on our homepage. Recently, we've
