Bookseller Bulletin February 3, 2006
[]

Dear ,

As we announced at the Bookseller Summit this morning, beginning April 2006 Abebooks will process all MasterCard and Visa transactions made through the Abebooks web sites. We will pay you weekly for these sales and you will still be able to accept additional direct payment methods such as American Express, Discover, PayPal, Check or money order, if you choose.

Bringing all Visa and MasterCard payments into our systems will make our web sites even more secure for buyers. For the booksellers, the benefit will be that you no longer carry the cost of fraudulent purchases made by Visa and MasterCard as Abebooks will assume the responsibility for these charge backs. Implementing mandatory payment processing on Visa and MasterCard will also simplify the launch of gift certificates and coupons onto the Abebooks marketplace this year.

As part of this initiative, we will reduce our processing fees for Visa and MasterCard sales placed on the Abebooks.de and Abebooks.fr web sites to 3.5% for all booksellers. We are doing this to reflect different market conditions, and you can benefit by listing more of your German and French language books. Our fees for processing MasterCard and Visa sales placed on the Abebooks.com and Abebooks.co.uk web sites will continue to be 5.5%.

You will receive further information within the next few weeks. If you have any questions, full details are available here, or you may contact our Customer Support team.

Sincerely,

Hannes Blum
