We
have two announcements for you today: the extra charges timeframe
has been reduced, and you can now download the full list of Abebooks
categories.
Extra
Charges Timeframe Update
Starting
today, buyers have 4 days instead of 7 to accept or reject extra
charges on their orders.
Booksellers
at the UK Summit in London first suggested this change and we followed
up with the Advisory Group. More than 90% of AG members agreed that
the timeframe should be shorter than the current 7 days, with the
majority leaning towards 3 or 4 days.
You
can request extra charges to cover insurance, tracking, postage
on heavy books or taxes. After 4 days, you have the option to
process the order anyway, or to reject it. You can follow up with
the buyer if you need to using the e-mail address provided in
your order e-mail.
Please
note that the reduced timeline will be applied to any new extra
charges requests, but not to any outstanding requests in your account.
Download
Categories List
If you
are using an inventory management tool other than HomeBase or our
online listings manager, you can now download our full Abebooks
categories list and assign the category codes to your listings.
The
new Abebooks categories aren't viewable to buyers yet, but you can
start assigning categories to your listings now so that your books
will be found when the new Browse launches. [Read

Remember
that Abebooks categories are separate from your catalogs, and that
you can continue to use your catalogs in addition to the Abebooks
categories. Just sign on to your account and select [Downloads]
from the Members Menu and then [Download Abebooks Browse Categories
List] to get started. [View

If
you're going to start assigning categories to your listings, make
sure to contact our Customer Support team before uploading your
first file with the categories. We'll need to update your account
to process the file.
