Refinements Test
For one month starting today, 10% of AbeBooks visitors AbeBooks
see re-designed search results. The new design brings the refinements
to the top of the page and removes the sidebar on the right. The
design displays more search results, increasing the number of
your books buyers see before they scroll down the page. We're
tracking the results of the test to determine whether to launch
the new design for all users. [See

"Item
Did Not Arrive" Process Update
Based on feedback from the Bookseller Advisory Group and Customer
Advisory Board, we're changing the returns timeframe for this
reason. Currently, 15 days after the estimated delivery date,
a buyer can initiate a return, and then we ask them to contact
you; 7 days later, the refund completes. Going forward, they can
initiate a return after 7 days, and then we'll provide them with
a form to contact you; 7 days later, the refund completes. The
buyer can cancel the return at any time. This change brings the
process for "item did not arrive" returns inline with the other
reasons and should increase buyer satisfaction with returns.
International
Editions in Search Results
International Editions are a popular alternative for students
looking for inexpensive textbooks. Starting today, listings with
the phrase "This is an International Edition" in the
description will include an International Editions logo. Buyers
looking for these books will identify them easily, and those looking
for domestic editions won't purchase internationals ones instead.

Penguin
Auction
Earlier this month, AbeBooks staged its first-ever charity
book auction where five special edition signed Designer
books were offered to the highest bidder. The event attracted
considerable media attention, including articles in The
Times of London, Independent
on Sunday and New
York Sun, and raised $13,775 for charity. We'll be looking
to hold more charity auctions in 2007 with the focus on
rare and antiquarian books.
