| Hello,
Starting today, buyers can select the reason "Buyer changed mind" when they initiate a return on AbeBooks.com. Our Policy remains unchanged, and booksellers are not required to accept returns for this reason when buyers initiate them.
Here's a short summary of the new process:
- When a buyer initiates a return for the reason "Buyer changed mind," we'll send them an e-mail asking them not to ship the book until they've heard back from you. We'll send you an e-mail asking you to follow up with the buyer or cancel the return within two days.
- We recommend booksellers accept these returns to provide excellent customer service, but if you do choose to cancel the return, the buyer will be sent an e-mail letting them know not to ship the book back. Please make sure to cancel the return within 2 days so the buyer knows not to ship the book back to you.
- If you'd like to accept the return, just send the buyer a quick e-mail confirming your shipping address. The buyer will be refunded the book price only (not original or return shipping) when the return is completed.
With the previous process, buyers were asked to contact the bookseller directly when they'd changed their mind about a book, and that return reason wasn't available in their list on the Returns screen. We're introducing the reason now to prevent buyers from selecting another reason, such as "Item not as described" when they want to initiate these returns, and to give booksellers the opportunity to cancel returns for this reason.
In the coming weeks, we'll also be introducing improvements to some of the Returns e-mails to better educate buyers on our Returns Policy.
Check the Bookseller Policies or the buyer Returns Policy for more details.
We look forward to making the Returns process easier for both booksellers and buyers with this change.
Sincerely,
Your AbeBooks Team
