Customer Support Tip
Requesting Extra Charges
by Stephanie
If you receive an order for a heavy book, or if you need to add tracking or insurance to an expensive order, you can easily request additional funds from the book buyer by using the [Request Extra Charges] feature. Extra charges can also be requested when you need to collect sales tax on an order.
It is extremely important that you keep your requests for extra charges reasonable and that you clearly communicate your reason(s) for them to the buyer. Buyers often mistrust such requests but if the amount asked for is reasonable, and if the buyer fully understands why it is necessary, they are more likely to accept the request and remain satisfied with their purchase.
For all Visa and MasterCard orders, extra charges must be requested by logging into your AbeBooks account and accessing the order through your Members Menu. This is the case even if you are using our Batch Order Processing or Order API tools. Once the buyer has accepted or rejected the request, the order must also then be completed through your Members Menu. Read more to find out how!
