Book Appraiser Listings
AbeBooks is launching a new section of our web site that will be dedicated to helping people find rare book appraisers. Our new appraisal section will list AbeBooks' booksellers that offer appraisal services – the list will be segmented by country and then state, province or county to help visitors to our sites locate a bookseller close to them. There is no cost for being included in this section. Click here for more details.
Italy Added to Shipping Matrix
Effective February 18, Italy will be added as a required country to your AbeBooks Shipping Matrix. This change is in preparation for the launch of abebooks.it, which is coming soon.
The default rates and speeds for Italy will be the same as the default rates to Germany and France. Please watch your Shipping Matrix for the addition of Italy, and be sure to update your rates and speeds from the defaults if they do not accurately reflect your costs.
Rare Book Room Search
We have added a feature to the Rare Book Room search that automatically pre-selects the price range to show only books priced at $10.00 and over. This applies only to searches done via the Rare Book Room. Buyers still have the ability to turn off the pre-selected price range and view all of the books that match their search criteria.
Akaikutsu Reseller Program Closing
It is with regret that we are announcing the closure of the Akaikutsu reseller program. No new booksellers are being added to the program at this time and all participating sellers will be emailed once the closure is finalized.
Introducing Gojaba.com
Earlier this month AbeBooks launched a brand new online marketplace for used, rare and out-of-print books. It's called Gojaba.com and it targets emerging markets for online used bookselling. Sweden and Russia are the first two markets to be served.
Gojaba.com is a no-frills, low-cost online marketplace for used books. It is intended primarily for Swedish booksellers serving Swedish buyers and Russian booksellers serving Russian buyers. Sellers from other nations may use Gojaba.com but it is designed to serve a series of regional markets. Gojaba.com connects buyers with sellers and keeps things very simple, thanks to a subscription-only business model.
Gojaba.com does not compete with AbeBooks - it has a different business model and will operate in countries outside of AbeBooks' core markets. Gojaba can handle multiple alphabets, including Russia's Cyrillic and also Mandarin, which will help the site expand rapidly.

Toolbox Offer For Long-Standing Sellers
In January, we extended a free offer to long-standing sellers for a collateral Toolbox containing packing tape and bookmarks. We received an overwhelming response that far exceeded our expectations and would like to thank those booksellers who participated.
In addition, we are looking for new ways to get this material into the hands of our sellers in a cost effective manner, so we will be bringing collateral with us to events, such as PLA 2008 and the Spring Book Show, for sellers in the area to pick up. If you are interested please contact us at: collateral@abebooks.com.
